I had a really tough time putting this issue
together. As I began this article on Sunday morning,
I was extremely disappointed that the House had
passed H.R. 3962 (AKA Obamacare) and it now moves
to the Senate
for debate and final passage vote. I make no
bones about my feelings of this bill. I am
vehemently against any form of
Government
run Healthcare. Our government already
failed us in the banking industry, the auto
industry and now they want to run our
healthcare? Now maybe some of you are not
concerned because it may not effect you,
however if you are a small business it most
certainly will effect you. Some of you might
also be fortunate enough, like myself to
have a spouse with good healthcare coverage
and maybe you think because of that it won't
effect you.
I'm not going to proclaim that I have read
the full 1,990 page text of H.R. 3962 which
you can find at this location:
http://www.govtrack.us/data/us/bills.text/111/h/h3962ih.pdf
, however I have read various reports,
statistics and analysis of the reform
package and I am scared, for myself, my
family, my business and my country. If you
are lucky to have good solid coverage your
premium's will skyrocket, your employer may
even opt OUT and just pay the 8% payroll
surcharge, forcing you into the government
run option. Maybe your spouse or your job
will become extinct, maybe companies will
take your position and outsource it offshore
or just do without you in order to avoid the
penalties or premiums. If you don't have
coverage you will be forced to get coverage.
A family of four earning 425% of the FPL --
$102,100 per year – could expect to pay
$15,000 per year for coverage and take
responsibility for an average of $5,500 per
year in cost-sharing, the CBO estimates, and
if you don't have insurance or don't obtain
insurance, according to Internal Revenue
Code Section 7201, the government states
that:
"Any
person who willfully attempts in any manner
to evade or defeat any tax imposed by this
title or the payment thereof shall, in
addition to other penalties provided by law,
be guilty of a felony and, upon conviction
thereof, shall be fined not more than
$100,000 ($500,000 in the case of a
corporation), or imprisoned not more than 5
years, or both, together with the costs of
prosecution"
Imagine
that, the government will FINE you and
possibly imprison you if you choose NOT to
spend your money on health insurance. Now I
don't know about you, but the thought that
our government can fine and send us to jail
for not using OUR money the way we want to
use it is completely UNCONSTITUTIONAL!
It is outrageous to me, does this not
infuriate you? It should!
So what can we do? Well, first research,
find your local senate office and make phone
calls and tell them what you think. Our
voices are supposed to matter. If you don't
have an opposition to this plan, sit down
and go through the main objectives of this
Bill, make a list and evaluate how this will
effect you, your business, your family and
yes, even your grandkids, parents, or other
family members who will be impacted by this
bill. Maybe you have a parent or grandparent
on Medicare who rely on Medicare and
Medicare Advantage programs, under this Bill
our seniors and Medicare will be greatly
impacted. Our children, grandchildren and
great grandchildren will inherit the 10-year
cost of H.R. 3962 of a whopping $1.1
trillion, and that doesn't even include the
"Doc Fix" legislation, which seeks to lump
$245 billion of Medicare reimbursement
payments into the national debt.
As to how this will effect medical
billing companies, well read this:
SEC. 1644. BILLING AGENTS, CLEARINGHOUSES,
OR OTHER ALTERNATE PAYEES REQUIRED TO
REGISTER UNDER MEDICARE.
(a) Medicare- Section 1866(j)(1) of the
Social Security Act (42 U.S.C.
1395cc(j)(1)) is amended by adding at
the end the following new subparagraph:
(D) BILLING AGENTS AND
CLEARINGHOUSES REQUIRED TO BE
REGISTERED UNDER MEDICARE- Any
agent, clearinghouse, or other
alternate payee that submits
claims on behalf of a health
care provider must be registered
with the Secretary in a form and
manner specified by the
Secretary.'.
(b) Medicaid- For a similar provision
with respect to the Medicaid program
under title XIX of the Social Security
Act, see section 1759.(c) Effective
Date- The amendment made by subsection
(a) shall apply to claims submitted on
